A new drinking fountain for London’s Royal Parks inspired by the Calla Lily.

Location: London
Status: Concept design
Client: The Royal Parks Foundation & Tiffany & Co. Foundation
Contract Value:£3,750 per fountain

Imagine walking through one of London’s historic Royal Parks on a hot summers day. As you are strolling through the park you come across a small clearing and discover something unusual nestled within.

It looks like an oversized Lily flower, shimmering in the dappled light. As you get closer you notice the overlapping petals of the flower and on closer inspection you realise that there is a water nozzle inside the petals, and that this is in
fact, is a drinking fountain.

We wanted to create something magical for London’s Royal Parks, something that would complement the natural beauty of the park experience, as well as echo the history and grandeur of some of the existing features and buildings.

We want the new fountain to add a sense of mystery and intrigue and to be considered as a work of art in itself.

The lily petals are finished in a glossy enamelled finish and can be coloured to match its location. Inside the petals you will see tiny reflective studs that will look like little dew drops sparkling in the sun.

We have conceived of two different heights for the fountain, one for adults and one for children and wheelchair users. The design for both can be easily adapted to be either free-standing or wall mounted.

The fountain sits upon a mirrored surface as if springing out from a reflective pool of still water. This will be a simple mirror polished stainless steel plate with an anti-slip frit coating, it will be laid to a fall so any splashes will be directed away to a soak away gravel bed.
