WishYouWereHere NY
Location: Lower East Side, Manhattan and the Newburgh Quarter, London
Status: Completed 2009.
Client: Beyond the Valley Insight; Shaftesbury PLC and the LES BID
A transatlantic experience linking two like-minded destinations: London's Newburgh Quarter and New York's Lower East side. 15 independent boutiques from NY trade places with 15 boutiques in London in an exchange of cultures, lifestyles, and attitudes.
The project was masterminded by Beyond the Valley Insight and they invited us to come up with the design concepts for the interior fitout of the retail space in NY and two spaces in London.
We wanted to play on the idea of travel and the strong relationship between the two cities. We sourced timber shipping pallettes and used these as a building block to create an architectural installation.
As you walk around you discover little pockets of space inhabited by the different brands, each with their own distinct identities, but at the same time overlapping each other and becoming part of one whole environment.
Much like the way in which you navigate around a gallery space, you will discover a little something unique and personal to you as you walk around.
The NY event pops up 186 Orchard St & throughout the LES (August 22nd to September 13th 2009).
